A Denman resident who stopped to help a cyclist suffering cardiac arrest received a Vital Link Award at the Denman Ambulance Station on Dec. 13, according to a BCEHS press release published in the Dec. 15 Islands Grapevine.[1]

The incident happened on Aug. 23, 2020, when two couples from Nanaimo were biking on Hornby and Denman Islands and one cyclist fell into a ditch on the way back to the Denman ferry.[1]

The release says another cyclist turned back, his wife called 911 and began CPR, and the Denman resident took over until first responders and paramedics arrived.[1]

The cyclist’s partner attended the award ceremony, the release says.[1]
