Denman Island trustees amended draft farming regulations to set a 30-metre setback from watercourses for buildings and structures associated with agriculture, except fences, according to minutes of special meetings in October.[1]
The minutes say staff had been asked to bring back information on watercourse setbacks. A memorandum recommended excluding fencing from the setback requirement at that stage to support a full range of acceptable agricultural uses.[1]
The minutes also say a comprehensive review of setback requirements and Development Permit Areas was outside the scope of the farming-regulations project, and that most community survey responses and the Advisory Planning Commission supported a more thorough review in the future.[1]
