Denman housing groups agree to reserve units for seniors

The Denman Housing Association and Denman Community Land Trust Association have signed a memorandum of understanding to work cooperatively on affordable housing, according to a report in this week’s Grapevine. ^[1]

An early result is an agreement to reserve a minimum of five units in the planned Denman Green project for seniors housing. ^[1]

The report says the land trust had recently lost the property it intended to buy for the eight-unit Pepper Lane seniors housing project. The groups say the land trust will continue seeking land for other affordable housing projects. ^[1]

At a special meeting on January 17, the Denman Island Local Trust Committee discussed the Denman Green application. Staff reported that the province had issued a groundwater licence and that a response from K’ómoks First Nation was being reconsidered by its newly elected Chief and Council; further discussion was deferred to the February 7 meeting. ^[2]
