Two public speakers raised concerns about farming and proposed regulations at the Denman Island Local Trust Committee meeting on Feb. 7. [1]
Doug Wright outlined difficulties faced by farmers and the fragility of the food supply system. He proposed letting farmers handle water issues, avoiding barriers to selling food and agricultural products, and bringing unused farmland into production. [1]
Richard Day said he farms under the Agricultural Assessment Act on land zoned Resource and asked the committee to consider designating some farmed Resource-zoned land outside the Agricultural Land Reserve as Agriculture without a multi-year process. He said some activities could require a Temporary Use Permit on land not designated Agriculture. [1]
