Residents raised concerns about housing affordability and the proposed Bylaw Enforcement Notification bylaw at the Denman Island Local Trust Committee’s April 4 meeting, according to the adopted minutes.[1]
The minutes record that a member of the public objected to the proposed system, saying it enforced housing regulations under review and might contravene the human right to adequate housing. The Denman Island Housing Action Group asked the committee to refer proposed amendments to the Housing Advisory Planning Commission.[1]
Other public comments described difficulty finding affordable housing on Denman and concerns about safety and security in current housing situations. The minutes also record a request to deny additional bylaw-enforcement powers and fines; they do not record a committee decision on those requests.[1]
