Public comments at the Denman Island Local Trust Committee’s April 4 meeting included objections to proposed amendments to the Bylaw Enforcement Notification bylaw and a request for the Housing Advisory Planning Commission to consider them.[1]

The minutes record that a member of the public objected to the bylaw, saying the system enforces housing regulations under review and may contravene the human right to adequate housing. The Denman Island Housing Action Group asked the committee to refer the proposed amendments to the commission.[1]

Laura Thomson objected to allowing bylaw enforcement to impose fines if access without notice is refused. She asked the committee not to grant enforcement more power or introduce additional fines, and said micromanaging bylaws was not reasonable on Denman.[1]

The committee minutes record those comments and requests; they do not record a response from the committee on the proposed amendments at that meeting.[1]
