Denman housing commission appointed as Trust rejects expedited grant bid

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee appointed seven members to the Housing Advisory Planning Commission for a term ending April 25, 2025, according to minutes of its April 25 special meeting.^[1]

The committee discussed requirements for a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation grant application, including a housing action plan, commission review, business case and community consultation. The minutes record concern about the short timeline and say the expedited process was not supported because of the need for thorough consultation and careful consideration.^[1]

The committee said it was beginning a Housing Review Project to examine bylaws and housing options, and that completing the review would position the committee and community to participate in future grant opportunities.^[1]

The committee asked staff to provide commission members with the Official Community Plan, Land Use Bylaw and Housing Review. It also asked staff to provide hard copies of the island’s Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaws to the local trustees.^[1]
