Denman trustees advance farming bylaw amendments

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee gave second readings to amended versions of proposed bylaws 228 and 229 at its June 6 meeting, according to adopted minutes.^[1]

The amendments to bylaw 228 concerned Schedule C land-use designations in the Official Community Plan. The committee also amended bylaw 229’s agri-tourism definition to add “where no permanent facilities are constructed or erected” and removed a two-consecutive-year limit from a table of permitted buildings and structures.^[1]

The committee directed staff to notify property owners affected by the Schedule C changes and added a Land Use Bylaw map amendment to its future-projects list, to align zoning with Official Community Plan designations.^[1]

The minutes say staff reported that adding a map change for about five properties designated Agriculture in the Official Community Plan and in the Agricultural Land Reserve could extend the project timeline by a few months.^[1]
