The Denman Island Local Trust Committee endorses an amended housing review project and schedules Community Meeting 1 after the Housing Advisory Planning Commission submits its October report. [1]
The project focuses on a review of Denman Island Land Use Bylaw No. 186 and Official Community Plan No. 185, with the goal of increasing options for affordable and attainable housing while minimizing housing impacts and protecting the environment. [1]
The committee endorses amended terms of reference for the Housing Advisory Planning Commission and asks staff to send a letter to First Nations to identify how they would like to be engaged in the housing review project. [1]
The amended engagement plan includes Community Meeting 1, Community Meeting 2, and community information and public hearing meetings. The bylaw drafting and approval phase is scheduled for April 2024 to December 2024. [1]
The committee also asks the Regional Planning Committee to submit a business case to Trust Council regarding a water availability assessment and to prioritize Denman Island in fiscal 2024/25. [1]
At the meeting, the Housing Action Group presented petitions signed by 541 residents against enforcement and requesting a review of housing regulations, and by 601 residents supporting secondary-dwelling regulations in the Agricultural Land Reserve. [1]
