Housing concerns dominated public comments at the Denman Island Local Trust Committee’s July 25 meeting, where residents spoke about insecure housing, affordability and barriers to building homes.[1]
Comments included concerns that housing shortages affect workers in Denman restaurants, the general store and ferries, and that children and families are affected by housing insecurity.[1]
Residents also questioned the Density Bank and called for changes to housing rules; one comment said the Density Bank numbers needed correction and that the concept might be a barrier to affordable housing.[1]
A trustee said the Housing Advisory Planning Commission was working on the Housing Review project, and asked community members to direct concerns to trustees rather than staff.[1]
