Denman’s Local Trust Committee asked staff to prepare a letter supporting a ferry between Vancouver Island and Hornby Island, rather than a route across Denman. The request followed a presentation about through traffic on the island. [1]

The October 3 minutes say the presentation outlined concerns about the existing cross-island traffic system and asked trustees to support the direct-sailing option. Trustees also noted concerns about the speed limit on the main road used by through traffic. [1]

The committee requested that the letter go to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, BC Ferries’ chief executive officer, the regional district director and the MLA. It also requested that staff schedule a joint meeting with the Hornby and Denman local trust committees about ferry transport. [1]

Public comments recorded in the minutes described speeding, congestion and safety concerns on Denman’s ferry-traffic roads, and asked the committee to advocate for solutions. The minutes record the comments and committee requests, not a response from the agencies named. [1]
