The Denman Island Local Trust Committee requests staff to analyze the Housing Advisory Planning Commission recommendations and schedule a special Zoom meeting at the beginning of 2024 to discuss options and next steps.[1] The committee also receives the commission’s final report and its accompanying guide.[1]
Staff is requested to print twelve or more copies of the report and guide for distribution to the Denman Island community.[1] Staff is also requested to post both documents and related correspondence to the Denman Island Projects web page.[1]
Discussion includes the difference between accessory dwelling units and secondary dwelling units, educational information for the public, and the possibility of treating enforcement recommendations as a stand-alone project.[1] Distribution of the report and guide is suggested before a Community Information Meeting, where visual aids could help explain the proposed policies.[1]
The committee also adopts a standing resolution requiring bylaw-enforcement personnel to give a minimum of 24 hours notice before conducting a site visit and to schedule a time with the property owner.[1] Bylaw Compliance and Enforcement Manager Warren Dingman says existing law requires 24 hours notice and occupant consent for a dwelling inspection requiring entry into a residence, while most enforcement work involves land inspections.[1]
