Public comments at the Denman Island Local Trust Committee’s October 3 meeting raised concerns about cross-island ferry traffic, including speeding, congestion and safety for people walking or cycling on the roads. One comment said residents could no longer safely walk or bike on roads used by ferry traffic.[1]
A delegation presented concerns about through traffic and asked the committee to support examining a ferry route between Vancouver Island and Hornby Island that did not cross Denman. Trustees supported the initiative and noted concern about the speed limit on the main road used by through traffic.[1]
The committee asked staff to write to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, BC Ferries’ chief executive officer, the regional district director and the MLA, asking them to seriously examine the option of a ferry to Hornby from Vancouver Island rather than across Denman.[1]
