Denman residents heard a presentation on proposed farming regulations at a community information meeting on February 13, ahead of a public hearing scheduled to follow. The meeting reviewed proposed Bylaws 228 and 229, which would amend the island’s Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw.[1]

The proposed changes include a new Agriculture designation for lands in the Agricultural Land Reserve, rules for dwellings and agri-tourism accommodation, updated agricultural definitions and revised setbacks for associated farm buildings.[1]

Questions included whether pump houses were affected, whether seasonal farm-worker dwellings could be used for off-season agri-tourism, and how water use and groundwater licences are monitored. The meeting minutes say no pump-house changes were proposed and that monitoring groundwater or commercial-use licence conditions is outside Islands Trust authority.[1]

The minutes say the Local Trust Committee may consider minor corrections after the public hearing. They do not record a decision on the proposed bylaws at the February 13 meeting.[1]
