Denman Island trustees reviewed housing options at a special electronic meeting on February 20, discussing staff analysis of recommendations from the Housing Advisory Planning Commission. The meeting was described as primarily an information-gathering session, with public input expected at a future in-person meeting on Denman. ^[1]

The discussion covered options including permitting secondary suites and accessory dwelling units in zones where housing is allowed, and removing the temporary-use-permit requirement for accessory dwelling units. Trustees supported several options, with conditions recorded in the minutes. ^[1]

Trustees did not recommend a medium-density multi-family zone at this time. They supported reviewing zoning for properties already zoned for multiple dwellings and allowing variations in housing that support shared facilities. ^[1]

The minutes say the project’s primary emphasis is land-use amendments to the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw. Other recommendations, including affordability measures, education and engagement, and advocacy, could be considered separately in a Housing Action Plan. ^[1]
