A community information meeting on February 13 reviewed proposed Denman Island Bylaws 228 and 229, which concern farming regulations. The meeting was intended to explain the proposed changes before a public hearing, according to the Local Trust Committee minutes.[1]

The proposed Official Community Plan amendment would designate lands in the Agricultural Land Reserve as Agriculture and add policies supporting agriculture uses consistent with Agricultural Land Commission regulations. The proposed Land Use Bylaw amendment would address dwellings in the reserve, agri-tourism use and accommodation, agricultural definitions and setbacks for associated farm buildings.[1]

Questions included whether pump houses were affected; staff said no changes to pump-house regulations were proposed. The minutes also record that the Agricultural Land Commission’s agri-tourism accommodation rules did not allow permanent facilities.[1]

The minutes say the public hearing was to follow the information meeting. They also record that, after the hearing, trustees would consider possible minor edits to correct numbering and editing errors and reword the definition of “produce stand.”[1]
