Denman Island trustees reviewed housing options at a special meeting on February 20, discussing staff analysis of recommendations from the Housing Advisory Planning Commission (HAPC). The minutes describe the meeting as an information-gathering session, with public input expected at a future in-person meeting on Denman.^[1]

The options discussed included allowing secondary suites and accessory dwelling units in zones where housing is permitted, with some conditions. Trustees supported removing the temporary-use-permit requirement for accessory dwelling units and eliminating the density bank, while noting that the number and size of dwellings could be proportional to lot size.^[1]

For multi-tenant and multi-land-ownership housing, trustees supported action through Official Community Plan policies to expedite approvals, rather than pre-zoning. The minutes say a medium-density multi-family zone was not recommended at that meeting.^[1]

The discussion also covered environmental impacts, including support for cistern requirements for new builds and additional housing. The minutes record that trustees supported conservation-focused innovation in new affordable housing.^[1]
