Denman Island trustees reviewed housing options at a special meeting on February 20, including possible changes to the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw. The minutes say the meeting was primarily for information gathering, with public input planned for a future in-person meeting on Denman.[1]
The options discussed included allowing secondary suites in zones where dwellings are permitted and removing the temporary-use-permit requirement for accessory dwelling units. Trustees supported both options, according to the minutes.[1]
Trustees also supported allowing accessory dwelling units in residential zones, with the number and size of dwellings proportional to lot size. They supported requiring cisterns for new builds and additional housing.[1]
The minutes record differing levels of support for other proposals. Trustees did not recommend a medium-density multi-family zone at that time, while supporting policies for expediting approvals for multi-tenant housing.[1]
