Denman trustees schedule special meeting on housing review

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee directs staff to schedule a special Zoom meeting as soon as possible to review a draft Housing Action Plan and options for drafting bylaws supporting the Housing Review project. The resolution carried on April 9. ^[1]

Staff recommends the special meeting take place in May, with discussion focused on the draft plan and options arising from the Housing Advisory Planning Commission’s work and a February 20 special meeting. ^[1]

The committee supports an expedited timeline. Staff reports that funding for the next phase has been approved and that engagement with K'ómoks First Nation has begun on a staff-to-staff basis. ^[1]

The committee also advances a minor project concerning Temporary Use Permit regulations for secondary dwelling units. It requests that staff remove the Temporary Use Permit requirement in Section 5, Area 2 of the Land Use Bylaw and related Official Community Plan references. ^[1]

During public comments, a resident objects to adding the Suitable Land Analysis, Water Availability Assessment and Housing Action Plan to the Housing Review project, saying those items are out of scope and could delay the review. ^[1]
