Denman trustees adopt bylaws and advance housing review
The Local Trust Committee endorses project plans covering temporary-use permits, housing options and engagement with the K’ómoks Nation.

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee adopts bylaws 228 and 229, completing the final adoption step described by staff after public hearing, third reading, Executive Committee approval and approval from the Minister of Municipal Affairs. [1]
The committee also endorses a project charter for the Housing Related Temporary Use Permit Review Project as a minor project, an amended Denman Island Housing Action Plan and a revised charter for Phase 2 of Stage 2 of the Denman Island Housing Review Project. [1]
The housing review includes a community information meeting followed by a public hearing on the same day for the temporary-use-permit review. [1]
Trustees support removing the Temporary Use Permit requirement for accessory dwelling units. The minutes say this will also remove the density bank, while the transcript says the bank contains seven densities. [1] [2]
During discussion, trustees say they are not interested in applying densities to parkland or allowing housing on institutionally zoned properties. They support examining site-specific legalization of housing, capturing properties already providing housing, examining tiny homes on wheels and maintaining the siting and use permitting tool. [1]
The revised process includes consideration of fair and respectful engagement with the K’ómoks First Nation, with more detailed engagement identified for some areas and limited analysis for others. [1]
