The Denman Island Local Trust Committee approves the revised Denman Island Housing Review Project charter, additional funding for continued K’ómoks First Nation engagement and the next steps for completing Stage 2, Phase 2A. [1]

The committee approves up to $5,000 from the existing 2024-25 project budget for continued engagement with K’ómoks First Nation. [1] Staff say the additional funding supports archaeological work, biological work with cultural knowledge holders and documentation intended to provide foundational information for Islands Trust staff. [1]

Staff report that K’ómoks First Nation has provided a map showing four areas of particular interest, with additional areas potentially identified. Staff say the information can be incorporated into land analysis to indicate areas more or less suited to potential increased density or areas for exclusion. [1]

The housing review includes work on housing definitions, water requirements and possible regulations for secondary suites and accessory dwelling units. The committee agrees with an 18000-litre water-storage requirement and prefers determining maximum floor area using the total combined floor area of all dwelling units rather than lot coverage. [1]

The committee also discusses regulations for vacation rentals, cisterns and secondary suites. Staff are asked to explore domestic water requirements, and the committee approves the next steps for completing Stage 2, Phase 2A. [1]
