The Denman Island Local Trust Committee postpones its community information meeting and public hearing on proposed Bylaws 248 and 249 after trustees say many community members did not receive the local newspaper carrying the hearing notice because of the postal strike. [1]

The committee requests staff to return the Temporary Use Permit Review Project and amendments to Bylaw 249 at a later meeting, following consideration of the broader housing project timelines. [1]

The proposed Bylaw 249 amendments concern whether secondary dwellings are permitted per lot or per primary dwelling. Staff’s proposal is to permit secondary dwelling units on a per-lot basis, with one unit per lot; the minutes say fourteen properties with more than one civic address could potentially be affected. [1]

The committee also approves the next steps for completing the Denman Housing Review Project, Stage 2, Phase 2B, and requests staff to return with options for a minor project. [1]

The next regular meeting is scheduled for January 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Denman Activity Centre. [1]

Trustees noted that legislative public notification requirements regarding the Public Hearing had been met; however, many community members were not aware that it was to take place today because the local newspaper, in which the hearing was advertised, had not been delivered to homes due to the postal strike.
