Denman’s Local Trust Committee held a community information meeting on proposed Bylaw Nos. 248 and 249 on March 18, with approximately 43 members of the public attending.[1]
The proposals would remove the density bank from the Official Community Plan and allow secondary dwellings in rural residential, forestry and resource zones without a Temporary Use Permit. The minutes say the current rules allow those dwellings by permit in those zones.[1]
Questions at the meeting included how many densities had been used for affordable housing and whether the proposed changes had been assessed for their effects on density and population. The minutes record that a build-out analysis had been completed, but that information could not yet be finalized and presented while existing covenants and specific restrictions remained to be reviewed.[1]
The minutes also record a request from K’ómoks First Nation to defer consideration of advancing the bylaws until July 2025 to allow more time for an environmental review.[1]
