Denman trustees request fall housing engagement session

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee requests staff schedule a community engagement session about the housing project in September or October 2025. The committee passes the motion at its July 15 meeting. ^[1]

The session is intended to provide further opportunity to discuss the project in greater detail, and staff are preparing materials for a July 26 community engagement session. Saturday September 20 is identified as a potential date for the later session. ^[1]

The meeting also hears a proposal to pre-zone 5400 Northwest Road for 10 affordable housing units in two clusters owned by a not-for-profit housing co-op. The proposal includes a four-site campground, community garden and common areas including event space. ^[1]

The planner says the conventional path is a rezoning application. The Local Trust Committee can also review the Official Community Plan designation and consider site-specific pre-zoning within the current housing project. ^[1]

The committee gives first, second and third readings to Bylaw 258, the Denman Island Local Trust Committee Meeting Procedures Repeal Bylaw, and forwards it to the Islands Trust Executive Committee for consideration of approval. ^[1]
