A public comment at a Denman Island Local Trust Committee meeting raised concerns about pre-zoning land before an Official Community Plan update, including the possibility of limiting public input and disrupting the intended balance of densities.[1]
The July minutes record that the speaker questioned the proposed housing at 5400 Northwest Road and said it was unclear how the committee determined proposed limits on house size.[1]
The minutes also record the Snag Housing Co-op’s presentation: it sought pre-zoning for 10 homes in two clusters, with a four-site campground, community garden and common areas. The delegation said the project would be operated as a not-for-profit and that concerns about traffic and tourism would be taken into account.[1]
The committee asked staff to schedule a community engagement session about the housing project in September or October 2025, according to the minutes.[1]
