The Denman Island Local Trust Committee heard delegations on affordable housing and an aquaculture operation at Denman Point at its December 16 meeting, according to adopted minutes. [1]

The Denman Community Housing Society presented a proposal to amend the Official Community Plan for a future affordable-housing site at the Emcon works yard, which is leased to Mainroad until 2033. The delegation said an offer from Emcon could allow the community to secure a parcel for future housing. [1]

Another delegation discussed an application to the provincial government to expand an aquaculture operation that it said encroaches on the marine conservation area at Denman Point. The planner said a Crown lease referral would be sent to staff; if the area encroaches on the conservation zone, staff would note that rezoning is required to permit the use. [1]

The chair cautioned the delegate not to assume the province would send a referral before deciding on the application, and suggested making a bylaw complaint to enable an investigation. The committee added the aquaculture expansion to its new-business agenda. [1]
