The Association for Denman Island Marine Stewards raised concerns at the Dec. 16 Local Trust Committee meeting about an application to the provincial government to expand an aquaculture operation at Denman Point.[1]
The delegation said the operation encroaches on the Marine Conservation Area and that the proposed expansion is outside the current lease area and has already happened. It also said a complaint had been made to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.[1]
The planner said a Crown lease referral would be sent to staff for a response and that, if the area encroaches into the Marine Conservation zone, staff would note that rezoning is required to permit the use. The chair asked the planner to inform the committee if a referral came forward and suggested the delegate consider making a bylaw complaint to enable an investigation.[1]
