The Denman Community Housing Association held a community consultation on affordable housing at the Community Hall on March 15, according to a report to the Local Trust Committee. Trustee Sam Borthwick reported that a BC Housing grant had been cut and other funding options were being explored.[1]

At the committee’s March 17 meeting, a member of the public proposed that the need for affordable housing on Denman Island may be up to 300 units. Another member of the public expressed concern that affordable housing proposals were being pushed into already dense areas, raising possible septic and traffic problems and pedestrian safety on Northwest Road.[1]

The chair advised that the siting and use permit process provides a review of septic regulations. A trustee acknowledged the local roads committee advocating for safer road conditions, while another spoke on the benefits of clustering affordable housing closer to amenities to reduce vehicle use.[1]
