Denman housing consultation draws funding and siting concerns

A Denman Community Housing Association consultation on affordable housing took place at the Community Hall on March 15, Trustee Sam Borthwick reported to the Local Trust Committee on March 17.[1]
Borthwick reported that a BC Housing grant had been cut and that other funding options were being explored to allow greater local autonomy.[1]
At the March 17 meeting, a member of the public said affordable housing proposals were being pushed into already dense areas and raised concerns about septic systems, traffic and pedestrian safety on Northwest Road.[1]
The chair said the siting and use permit process reviews septic regulations. A trustee said clustering affordable housing near amenities can reduce the need for vehicle use, and another noted the local roads committee was advocating for safer road conditions.[1]
