At a March 17 Denman Island Local Trust Committee meeting, a member of the public said affordable housing proposals were being pushed into already dense areas and raised concerns about septic systems, traffic and pedestrian safety on Northwest Road.[1]

The meeting minutes say the chair responded that the siting and use permit process reviews septic regulations. A trustee noted advocacy by the local roads committee for safer road conditions, and another spoke about the benefits of locating affordable housing closer to amenities to reduce vehicle use.[1]

In January, trustees discussed options for the island’s housing policy and regulations, which the minutes said had yet to be decided. The discussion included density, subdivision, dwelling limits and secondary units.[2]
