The Association of Denman Island Marine Stewards joined five other organizations in a letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier David Eby expressing concern about the proposed Coastal Gateway Port project in Baynes Sound.[1]

The signatories urged governments to ensure reviews are rigorous and science-based, respect Indigenous rights and protect the sound’s ecological and economic values.[1]

The letter says ship construction, repair and recycling require contained industrial facilities with environmental controls, and raises concerns about dredging or beaching vessels in the shallow sound.[1]
