The Denman Island Local Trust Committee asked staff to present draft bylaws for first reading based on decisions made at its April 17 meeting. First reading is anticipated in May and will trigger referral, community engagement and further input. [1]
The committee reviewed draft Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw language for the Denman Housing review project. It directed changes including removing a proposed 10-unit limitation, a Step Code requirement and a maximum floor area of 50 square metres from housing policies. [1]
The committee also directed staff to remove the phrase “a total of 45 days in any one calendar year” from the Guest Accommodation definition and change the limit for occasional markets from “no more than 45” days to “no more than 52 days.” [1]
Public questions and comments addressed septic and sewer terminology, the 60-metre distance between residences on one property, housing in the Agricultural Land Reserve, temporary use sites, rainwater catchment and definitions of non-market and affordable housing. [1]
A trustee said further engagement, including a Community Information Meeting and Public Hearing, would follow first reading of the proposed bylaws. The committee endorsed the revised project charter and adjourned at 12:06 p.m. [1]
