The Denman Island Local Trust Committee asked staff to incorporate housekeeping, grammatical and formatting changes to draft bylaws on housing after reviewing them at its May 12 meeting.^[1]

The proposed bylaws amend the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw. The minutes record discussion of secondary suites, dwelling floor-area limits, setbacks and subdivision, among other provisions.^[1]

The committee agreed to use a standard template for a covenant intended to prevent a secondary suite from being subdivided from a principal dwelling. It also agreed that setting a maximum floor area for a dwelling was reasonable, with the option of applying for a variance.^[1]

The minutes record a member of the public speaking about an affordable-housing emergency and urging trustees to move forward with the draft amendments. The committee’s May 12 minutes record the request for staff revisions, not a final decision on the bylaws.^[1]
