Discussion of Camp Denman at the June 23 Local Trust Committee meeting included concerns from residents about development rules, water use and the site’s plans, alongside responses from the project’s representatives. The minutes record approximately 100 members of the public in attendance.[1]

Some speakers said the project appeared to be a resort and raised concerns about tents, water shortages and whether rules were being followed. Other speakers supported children’s camps and arts programs, while saying processes should be followed.[1]

Camp Denman’s representatives said they were not developing a resort, had prepared an invasive species plan and a comprehensive water plan, and were willing to discuss water use. The minutes also record the executive director saying the water system had not changed and that the tents were not luxury accommodations.[1]

Tony Aly, who publishes this paper, is involved with Camp Denman, also known as Elkhaven and Elk Haven, and has a personal interest in land-use and bylaw-enforcement matters affecting that site.[1]
