The Denman Island Waste Management Committee has written and implemented a harassment policy for the recycling centre, bottle depot and free store, according to an article published under the committee’s name. [1]
The article says the policy followed recent harassment of staff and defines prohibited behaviour to include verbal aggression, threats, yelling and other conduct likely to cause intimidation, offence or humiliation. [1]
For a first infraction, a person will be told to leave the facilities; a second brings a six-month ban from the three facilities, and a third results in a permanent ban, the article says. [1]
The committee’s article says staff welcome dialogue, questions and suggestions, while asking people to communicate respectfully. [1]
