The Denman Island Local Trust Committee’s July 11 special meeting included a presentation on the Denman Island Housing Review’s draft Official Community Plan and land-use bylaws, according to the meeting minutes.[1]
The presentation said the density cap and density bank would be replaced by policy focused on affordable secondary suites and rezoning for multi-unit housing. It also described changes to permitted housing types and a projected reduction of 100 dwelling units in overall density.[1]
The minutes say cisterns would be required for all new builds and filling swimming pools with groundwater would be prohibited under the draft changes. The public hearing was scheduled for Sept. 15.[1]
At the meeting, a questioner raised concerns about public awareness of the meeting and access to documents. The minutes record the planner’s response that members of the public could submit comments until the public hearing closed and that changes could still be made following second reading.[1]
