Cigarette litter linked to fires and fines

The issue reported that two drivers on southern Vancouver Island were each ticketed $575 for discarding lit cigarettes, and that discarded cigarettes caused a brush fire and a bark-mulch fire. BC Wildfire Service warned that people may be liable for firefighting costs if discarded smoking materials cause or contribute to a wildfire.
