A local witness reported that on July 11, 2019, B.C. Ferries discharged a large amount of yellow plastic into the ocean due to a metal object stuck in a guide wheel that stripped plastic coating off a cable. The ferry continued operation despite the damage, causing plastic pollution in the ocean.
