Denman bylaw file advances through screening and compliance process

Bylaw notices concerning Camp Denman have been disputed, with adjudication and possible legal action to follow if compliance is not reached.

Tony Aly, who publishes this paper, is involved with Camp Denman, also known as Elkhaven and Elk Haven, and has a personal interest in land-use and bylaw-enforcement matters affecting that site. ^[1]

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee was told that the new uses at Camp Denman are not permitted and that enforcement is proceeding. ^[1]

Warren Dingman, Bylaw Compliance & Enforcement Manager, said the property owners had been informed that the uses were unlawful and were to cease. Bylaw infraction notices had been issued for lack of a siting and use permit and for an unlawful float, and the notices had been disputed. ^[1]

The next steps recorded in the minutes are attendance by a screening officer and a compliance process. If compliance is not reached, the file moves to adjudication followed by potential legal action. ^[1]

The committee was also told that no stop work order could be issued because building inspections are not done on Denman Island. ^[1]

The minutes record that the Agricultural Land Commission had been made aware of the issue, with Bylaw Enforcement working cooperatively with its staff and engaging the commission when necessary. ^[1]
