Denman committee defers Denman Green discussion to February

Trustees said staff was expected to provide options at the February 7 meeting after reviewing a pending K’ómoks Nation referral update.

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee deferred further discussion of the Denman Green application to its February 7 meeting, when staff was expected to have sufficient information to provide options.^[1]

Planner Sonja Zupanec said the province had issued a ground water licence for the project, and that this was not considered new information under post-public-hearing regulations because proof of an issued water licence was required before final adoption of the bylaws could be considered.^[1]

Zupanec also said staff had received a referral response from K'ómoks First Nation late in 2022, but had been informed that the newly elected K’ómoks Nation Chief and Council were reconsidering it and would provide an update shortly.^[1]

Staff will analyse the update to determine whether the significance of the information warrants the committee receiving new information after the public hearing. Zupanec cautioned trustees to continue abiding by provincial post-public-hearing rules.^[1]

The committee also adopted a 2023 regular business meeting schedule with meetings on April 4, June 6, July 25, October 3 and November 14.^[1] The meeting was held electronically, live streamed and recorded for viewing on the Islands Trust website.^[1]
