governance · 2021-09-01 · Denman Island

In autumn 2021, Denman and Hornby Island residents voted in a referendum to participate in a CityWest project to install last-mile fibre optic services on their islands. The project cost is about $7.6 million, with funding from the CVRD and a local improvement charge added to island taxes for about ten years to repay the loan. CityWest agreed to share 20% of its annual net revenues from the islands with CVRD for 20 years to support local grants.
