Denman LTC advances affordable-housing bylaws to approval stages

The committee gave third readings and forwarded housing-related bylaws for approval after a public hearing and discussion of the Denman Housing Association project.

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee gave third readings to bylaws supporting the Denman Housing Association project and forwarded them for approval by the Islands Trust Executive Committee and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. ^[1]

The committee gave third reading to Bylaw No. 241, an Official Community Plan amendment, and forwarded it to the Islands Trust Secretary for Executive Committee approval and to the ministry for approval. ^[1] It also gave third reading to Bylaw No. 242, a Land Use Bylaw amendment, and forwarded it to the Islands Trust Secretary for Executive Committee approval. ^[1]

The committee amended Bylaw No. 243, the Housing Agreement Bylaw, by adding the numbers 241 and 242 in clause B, gave it third reading as amended and forwarded it to the Islands Trust Secretary for approval. ^[1]

Planner Sonja Zupanec reported that approximately 35 members of the public attended the public hearing, approximately 12 written submissions were received and there were no specific requests to amend the Official Community Plan or Land Use Bylaw. ^[1]

Trustee David Critchley said there was overwhelming support for the bylaws at the public hearing, while noting that some aspects, including subsidized rent, had not been finalized. ^[1] Trustee Laura Busheikin said the density transfer would move density from one area to another rather than increase it. ^[1]

The committee also requested an electronic special meeting for late June or early July to consider further steps in the Farming Regulations Review project. ^[1]
