Denman trustees advance housing agreement changes for approval

The Local Trust Committee approved amendments, three readings and a referral to the Islands Trust Executive Committee for approval.

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee approved amendments to Housing Agreement Bylaw No. 239, including changing the Denman Community Land Trust Association address and revising eligibility for an affordable dwelling unit. ^[1] The amended bylaw was read a second and third time and forwarded to the Secretary of the Islands Trust for approval by the Executive Committee. ^[1]

The amended eligibility wording says only seniors, defined as persons 65 years of age and over, to a maximum of two such persons, may apply for an affordable dwelling unit. ^[1] It also says requirements will be waived for Indigenous elders who are seniors and whose ancestry relates to First Nations having territorial claims to Denman Island. ^[1]

The committee also postponed its response to the Islands Trust Area Bylaw No. TC 183 referral request until its next regular meeting. ^[1]

The meeting was held electronically on September 7, 2021, and the minutes record that it was called to order at 10:00 am and adjourned at 1:06 pm. ^[1]
