Option 2 would allow private subdivision only if it includes community benefit and requires rezoning, while community benefit subdivision would not require rezoning. Denman Island Local Trust Committee trustees expressed preference for the option, and draft policies and regulations will be sent for legal review.[1]
The planner said community benefit included land for conservation, affordable housing and First Nations, and suggested minimum parcel sizes could be waived for community benefit parcels.[1]
The committee also adopted an amended bylaw compliance and enforcement policy that permits unlawful short-term rentals to continue operating for only 45 days after being ticketed, rather than the previously allowed 90 days compliance period.[1]
The committee gave amended Public Notification Bylaw No. 259 third reading and forwarded it to the Islands Trust Executive Committee for consideration of approval.[1]
The committee requested staff schedule a special meeting on April 17, 2026 at 10:00 am on Denman Island. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Denman Activity Centre.[1]
