The Denman Island Local Trust Committee requested staff schedule a community engagement session about the housing project in September or October 2025. The motion carried at the committee’s July 15 regular meeting. ^[1]

The session follows a delegation about a proposal to pre-zone 5400 Northwest Road for 10 affordable housing units in two clusters owned by a not-for-profit housing co-op. ^[1]

The proposal also includes a four-site campground, a community garden and common areas, according to the minutes. The delegation said the property is 42 acres, is zoned RE and is not in the Agricultural Land Reserve. ^[1]

The planner said the conventional path is a rezoning application, while the housing project also provides opportunities to review the Official Community Plan designation and consider site-specific pre-zoning. ^[1]

The minutes record discussion about providing information on pre-zoning at public engagement sessions. They also state that changes to the Official Community Plan designation and zoning would follow community consultation. ^[1]
