Discarded cigarette butts linked to BC brush fires and fines

The issue reports that discarded cigarettes caused brush and mulch fires on southern Vancouver Island and that two drivers were each ticketed $575 under the Wildfire Act. BC Wildfire Service warned that people whose discarded cigarettes contribute to wildfires may be liable for firefighting and related costs.
