Hornby Island Community School students and volunteers planted 592 native plant plugs in Helliwell Provincial Park on October 22, 2024, as part of ongoing habitat restoration to improve conditions for endangered Taylor’s Checkerspot butterflies and reduce forest fire fuels. Further removal of dead branches and selective trees will occur this winter, followed by additional planting and seeding.
