Western Painted Turtle Confirmed on Denman Island

A Western painted turtle, a species native to BC and considered endangered, has been confirmed on Denman Island. Previously only Red-eared slider turtles were known in the area. The Western painted turtle was found alive on East Road near Macfarlane Road. Releasing and relocating turtles is regulated, and sightings are being reported to the Ministry of Environment.
