Annual Beach Cleanup Reveals Increase in Plastic Debris from Shellfish Industry

Volunteers collected between 8 and 9 tons of plastic debris from Denman Island beaches, a 30% increase from 2018. Most debris originated from the shellfish growing industry in Baynes Sound. The Association for Denman Island Marine Stewards (ADIMS) calls for Fisheries and Oceans and the shellfish industry to take responsibility for controlling aquaculture gear and equipment to prevent pollution.
