Local beekeepers are reminded to assess which hives survived the winter and investigate causes of colony losses such as rainwater, food shortages, or disease. The BC Ministry of Agriculture offers free testing for diseases like Nosema. Preventative measures include disinfecting equipment and ensuring adequate food stores.
